Bridlington Cricket Foundation Champions Equality and Inclusivity by Joining the Her Game Too Campaign

Bridlington Cricket Foundation is proud to announce that it has officially become a Champion of the Her Game Too campaign — joining a growing movement of cricket clubs and organisations across the country committed to tackling sexism, championing gender equality, and creating a truly inclusive sporting environment for all.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in the Foundation’s journey and reinforces our unwavering commitment to making cricket — and sport more broadly — welcoming, accessible, and safe for everyone in Bridlington and across East Yorkshire.

Why We’ve Joined Her Game Too

Established in 2024, Bridlington Cricket Foundation exists to improve people’s lives through the power of sport and to give our community the skills to lead fulfilled, healthy, and active lifestyles. Our work spans education, skills and training, health and wellbeing, community inclusion, and participation — and at the heart of everything we do is a belief that sport should be for everyone.

The decision to become a Her Game Too Champion was a natural one. The Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) report, published in 2023, revealed that 68% of women surveyed had experienced discrimination in cricket, and 58% did not believe that everyone engaged with cricket has the same opportunities to enjoy the game, progress, and be rewarded fairly.

These statistics are stark — and they demand action, not just at the elite level, but right here at grassroots level in our community. By joining Her Game Too, we are sending a clear and unequivocal message: women and girls are welcome, valued, and respected at Bridlington Cricket Foundation, whether as players, coaches, volunteers, officials, or spectators.

Bridlington Cricket Foundation supports gender equality and inclusivity in cricket through the Her Game Too campaign, advocating for a welcoming environment for all players and fans.

About Her Game Too

Her Game Too is a campaign fighting against sexism in sport. Originally founded by female football fans, the campaign has expanded into cricket, rugby, and ice hockey, partnering with professional and grassroots organisations nationwide.

In cricket, Her Game Too has partnered with professional organisations including Gloucestershire CCC, Essex, Western Storm, and Yorkshire CCC’s Thunder, as well as a rapidly growing network of grassroots clubs across the country

The campaign provides vital resources including:

  • A confidential reporting system where players, spectators, and volunteers can report incidents of sexism or misogyny — anonymously if preferred
  • An Inclusivity Guide (Driving Change, Breaking Boundaries: A Roadmap to Becoming More Inclusive for Women and Girls), developed in collaboration with Lacuna Sports and FabLittleBag, offering practical, actionable advice across six core pillars: Culture & Clubhouse, Club Policies & Safeguarding, Coaching Women & Girls, Clothing & Equipment, Facilities, and Useful Resources
  • Partnership opportunities for clubs, universities, and organisations at all levels of the game

Her Game Too believes that no one should have to worry about their kit, their facilities, or how welcome they’ll be when stepping onto the pitch. As Head of Her Game Too Cricket, Paige Caunce, has said: “The sport has come a tremendously long way… With participation numbers rising each year, and professional opportunities opening up, the Women & Girls’ game is flourishing like never before — however, there is still work to be done before we reach gender equality and stamp out sexism.”

Our Commitment

As a Champion of Her Game Too, Bridlington Cricket Foundation pledges to:

  • Promote a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors, participants, volunteers, and spectators
  • Maintain a zero-tolerance policy for sexist abuse or harassment of any kind
  • Display the Her Game Too logo proudly across our materials, facilities, and communications
  • Promote the Her Game Too reporting system so that anyone who experiences or witnesses sexism in cricket has a clear, confidential pathway to report it
  • Continue to develop and deliver girls’ cricket programmes, including Roses Cricket, as part of our commitment to growing the women’s and girls’ game in East Yorkshire

This partnership aligns directly with our constitutional objects, which include promoting community participation in healthy recreation, providing facilities and opportunities for those in need, and advancing education — particularly for children and young people.

Joining a Growing Movement

Bridlington Cricket Foundation is proud to join a growing network of grassroots clubs championing gender equality in cricket. Clubs such as Hartley Wintney Cricket Club, North East Cheshire Cricket Club, Sheffield Collegiate CC, Oughtibridge CC, and the University of York have all taken this important step.

As North East Cheshire CC noted when announcing their partnership: “Partnering with Her Game Too Cricket shows that we are serious in tackling sexism and discrimination in sport both on the pitch and in the clubhouse.”

You don’t need to have an established women’s or girls’ section to become a Champion — simply showing a commitment to gender equality within your community sends a powerful message. But at Bridlington Cricket Foundation, we are going further, actively investing in girls’ cricket programmes to ensure the next generation of female cricketers in our area has every opportunity to play, develop, and thrive.

Carl Parkin, Chair of Bridlington Cricket Foundation, said:"Bridlington Cricket Foundation was built on the belief that sport has the power to transform lives and bring communities together. Becoming a Champion of Her Game Too is a proud moment for us and a natural extension of the values we hold dear — equality, inclusivity, and respect for all. We want every girl and woman in Bridlington and East Yorkshire to know that cricket is their game too. Whether you want to pick up a bat for the first time, volunteer, coach, or simply enjoy watching the game, you will always be welcome here. We have zero tolerance for sexist abuse or harassment of any kind, and we will work tirelessly to ensure our programmes and environments reflect that commitment. I'm incredibly excited about what this partnership means for our community and for the future of women's and girls' cricket in our area."

Paige Caunce, Head of Her Game Too Cricket: “It brings us great pleasure to announce that Her Game Too Cricket will be joining forces with Bridlington Cricket Foundation.  Community is at the very heart of not only the sport of cricket but, also, of our campaign. Cricket brings people together and is a huge force for good when it is inclusive and accessible. We are, therefore, proud to be working with the BCF, who have clear ambitions to make sure that cricket is a game for all.  Her Game Too Cricket are grateful to Carl and the rest of the BCF for their support thus far and we are very much looking forward to working together in the future.”
