Holiday Activities & Food Programme FAQ’s
What is the HAF Programme?

The Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme is a government-funded initiative designed to support children and young people during school holidays. The programme runs at venues in East Riding of Yorkshire, aiming to provide children with opportunities to:

  • Stay active through fun physical activities
  • Socialise and make new friends
  • Learn about food education and healthy eating
  • Enjoy a free, nutritious meal at every session

HAF offers a safe and welcoming environment where children can have fun, learn new skills, and stay healthy during holiday periods.

Is my child eligible to take part in the HAF Programme?

Eligibility for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme is determined by East Riding Council. To find out if your child qualifies for a place, please visit the official East Riding Council website here.

If you need any assistance or have questions about eligibility, feel free to contact our team for support.

What if my child has a medical condition, allergy, or takes medication?

If your child has a medical conditionallergy, takes regular medication, or has an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), please ensure you provide full details on the booking form and on the food order form (if food-related).

This information allows our team to:

  • Review your child’s needs ahead of the session
  • Make any necessary adjustments to support them
  • Inform relevant staff to ensure your child’s safety and comfort

Sharing this information in advance helps us create a safe, inclusive and enjoyable experience for your child.

What does each day involve in the HAF Programme?

Every HAF session delivered by Bridlington Cricket Foundation includes a variety of engaging and enriching activities designed to keep children active, creative and well-fed.

Each day typically includes:

  • fun, active session (e.g. games, skills, or physical activities)
  • healthy, free meal
  • Food education to encourage healthy habits

Activities will vary, so no two days are exactly the same—keeping it fun and fresh for returning children.

What should my child wear to the HAF Programme?

Please dress your child in comfortable, casual clothing suitable for active play, and the weather

Your child should also bring a coat in case of outdoor activities and ideally wear trainers for safety and comfort during physical sessions.

What drinks will be provided during the HAF Programme?

Fresh drinking water is available at all HAF (Holiday and Food Activities) Programme sessions throughout. Children are welcome to refill their water bottles at any time during the day.

We kindly ask that, where possible, children only bring water or milk with them to drink. This helps us support healthy habits and align with the nutritional goals of the HAF programme.

What food will be provided during the HAF Programme?

healthy, balanced meal is provided at every HAF session as part of the programme.

If your child has any allergies, dietary requirements, or food preferences, please make sure to include this information when completing both the booking form. This helps us ensure every child is catered for safely and appropriately.

What ages can take part in the HAF programme?

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is government-funded and is designed for children and young people aged 5 to 16 years.

Please note that age ranges may vary depending on the activity we are providing. We recommend checking the HAF booking system, through East Riding Council, for specific age requirements at your chosen activity.

What if my child doesn’t enjoy the activities?

We understand that every child is different, and not everyone will enjoy every activity right away. Our team encourages children to have a go and try new things—even if they feel unsure or think they’re not good at it.

However, we never force participation. If a child prefers not to take part in a certain activity, we’ll offer them a chance to get involved in other ways—like helping with scoring, setting up equipment, or supporting their team.

Our priority is to make sure every child feels included, valued, and part of the group—no one is ever left out.

Will my child be properly looked after during holiday activities?

Absolutely! Your child’s safety and wellbeing are our top priorities. All holiday activities are supervised by our experienced, qualified and fully trained delivery team.

Each team member holds a valid DBS check, is trained in First Aid and is committed to creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment for all children. You can feel confident knowing your child is in safe hands while they enjoy new experiences and make new friends.

What if my child doesn’t know anyone at the holiday activities?

We understand that joining a new activity can feel daunting, especially if your child doesn’t know anyone. That’s why we make it a priority to create a welcoming, inclusive environment from the very beginning.

Our sessions start with icebreaker games and group activities designed to help children feel comfortable, make new friends and build confidence. Our team is always on hand to ensure no child is ever left out and that everyone feels part of the group.

By the end of the day, many children leave with smiles—and new friendships too!

How do I provide feedback or raise an issue?

If you have had a experience which is below or has exceeded your expectations and would like to provide feedback, please make a member of staff aware as soon as possible. If there are any issues, we want to resolve them quickly so that you can enjoy the rest of your activities.

You can also use this form to:

  • report an issue
  • tell us about a service you’ve been unhappy with
  • give us feedback
  • make a suggestion about our services

We’ll then investigate and try our best to resolve it. Your feedback will help us continue to improve our services.

We do not usually respond directly to feedback or suggestions, however if we need more information we’ll aim to get in touch with you within 10 working days.
